How it works

South African non profit organisations apply to join the Myggsa community. GreaterGood SA conducts basic compliance checks on every cause before they are profiled on this website where they manage their own activity and profile through a My Cause account. Causes are awarded activity rating icons depending on how active and engaged they are.

We do not assess governance capability, sustainability or the social impact of causes. We recommend that givers conduct their own checks before making a substantial commitment or visit the SA Social Investment Exchange to support fully assessed and monitored development projects.

Registered givers get a profile and My Giving account where  they can track all their giving and give to causes in whatever way they can - by volunteering, donating goods or skills and money. Donations to causes are processed quarterly by the GreaterGood South Africa Trust, a non profit, public benefit and 18A-compliant organisation.

How we fund our services 

GreaterGood SA provides a FREE service to non profit organisations all over South Africa. We work hard connecting givers with good causes because we believe in positive social change.

There's no joining or set up fee. There is no monthly subscription for causes.

We don’t think non profit organisations should have to pay to get funding. And if we made money from causes, we would be less likely to ask them the difficult questions that sometimes need to be asked. We treasure our independence and we think givers and causes do too.

Our giving community is a trusted way for people to contribute to good causes in South Africa. We check the non profit status, bank details and physical presence of every registered cause and we keep an eye on community activity to make sure everything is above board.

We have negotiated the lowest possible payment gateway and credit card transaction fees so that registered causes get the maximum out. For our services to causes and for our givers’ peace of mind – we ask for a 5% Good Grant on top of donations so that the cause does not lose out. This pays for website administration, checks on causes and is re-invested in outreach, technology, tools and training to make this an even better resource for social change-makers.

The GreaterGood South Africa Trust offers a public benefit service. We provide a platform for hundreds of causes from every corner of South Africa to showcase their work and access the resources they need to grow and thrive. We also work to build the capability of non profit organisations to improve their sustainability. 

We rely on the support of our partners and individual givers to continue this vital work. We are a small team of 18 passionate social activists and because we are run like a business (a tight ship), we have been able to keep our operating expenses to a minimum. By supporting GreaterGood SA, you will be sharing your gift with at least another 10 good causes – that’s because we are able to aggregate your cash, turning every R10 we receive into R100 for good causes.

GreaterGood SA is a registered South African Trust (IT3334/2004), Non Profit Organisation (040-346 NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930014027), part of the GreaterGood group. Section 18A Tax Exemption Status (TEU Reference: EVZ0064/11/05) and a Level 4 BEE contributor.

Donations to the GreaterGood SA Trust are tax deductible, please register or login to receive an 18A Tax Receipt on any gift.
